To be or not to be. Is that even a “real” question?

It was not as pretty as it was yesterday, it kind of hurts my soul when he weather changes so fast. I have been thinking about all the people in Chicago and thanking my lucky stars it’s not that cold here.

I spent some time with myself today, which was well needed and in retrospect I should have been doing this meditation thing in the likes of 20 years ago. I feel like if it would have been taught as a class in school I would have exceeded the expectations of my teachers, and may have even avoided my treacherous twenties. Don’t get me wrong I had an amazing time screwing up absolutely everything in my life, but being mindful would have maybe made it more fun and organized;)

Yesterday was the Chinese New Year, and the beginning of Losar in the Tibetan calendar. You can do many things to ensure the year will go well for you, they make huge bells out of Yak butter on the 21st of this month (we’ll touch on that at a later date). I wrote a list of mantras for me this year to follow. And since February is my meditation month I I am going to share them so that you might have a starting place for your mantras too!

Mantra meditation has become really popular. It consists of of chanting mantras and meditating at the same time. Mantra meditation requires some serious practice, but is easy as pie once you get the hang of it, and can make positive changes in your everyday life ... with just intentions. Very similar to prayer.

• I will Be present in the moment.

• I will be thankful

• I will just be.

• I will meditate daily .

• I will be kind, especially when difficult.

• I will no longer judge or criticize, including me.

• I will forgive, myself as well.

• I will not be resistant .

• I will notice the synchronicity in everyday life.

• I will contemplate death everyday.

These are just ten good ones, I think.

According to an article in Forbes magazine , Feb 9, 2015 by Ms. Alice Walton, “One study, pitted mindfulness training against the American Lung Association’s freedom from smoking (FFS) program, and found that people who learned mindfulness were many times more likely to have quit smoking by the end of the training, and at 17 weeks follow-up, than those in the conventional treatment. This may be because meditation helps people “decouple” the state of craving from the act of smoking, so the one doesn’t always have to lead to the other, but rather you fully experience and ride out the “wave” of craving, until it passes. Other research has found that mindfulness training, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), and mindfulness-based relapse prevention (MBRP) can be helpful in treating other forms of addiction.” When I read that my mind was blown and I knew I was on the right track.

It was like one of those moments in life where you just start to smile uncontrollably because you know that what you were doing, and what you are making a conscience effort to prove is being studied in the correct venues.

I can only hope that more people are able to indulge in the education of meditation, I’m aware it’s not a quick fix but in my life I have learned that most things that are worth anything take perseverance and hard work, But that’s been knowledge I’ve had since I was a child.

Now go get chill, take a deep breath, focus on the exhale and repeat...oh yeah and Be Well♥️
